Applications
MFL is a multi-function light, which is generally used for approach centreline, crossbars and side rows lighting. It can be used for threshold marking too. MFL uses 105W or 60W lamps in order to satisfy FAA-E-2952 and FAA-E-2968 requirements. It is available in white, red or green colour depending on the lighting to be provided.
Features
LIGHT UNIT: consists of a treated cast aluminium dome and a treated cast aluminium lower cover,fastened to the dome by means of three screws and silicone gasket. The proper mounting of the lower cover is ensured by a pin located in the lower side of the dome. The dome is provided with apertures for beam output. An additional silicone O-ring is outside placed around the dome to avoid dirt deposits between dome and mounting assembly. The finned lower cover is provided with a terminal bush for cable entry and with a valve for water tightness test. Two suitable seats are provided on the dome to make easy the light removal.
OPTICAL SYSTEM: consists of optical glass prisms, each mechanically clamped to the light dome by means of a steel retainer with gasket. An additional gasket is placed between each retainer and the relevant prism, to avoid glassmetal direct contact. The prism replacement is quick and easy and doesn’t require any sealing.
PLUG WITH LEADS: the assembly consists of a terminal bush provided with thread, wo single-pole Teflon leads, size 2.5 sq.mm, 0.770 m long, and a FAA L-823 plug, for very quick coupling with the receptacle mounted on the base.
LAMPS: 105 W or 60W tungstenhalogen, 6.6 A, 1000 hour rated life, complete with dichroic reflector and cable leads with male faston terminal. The lamps are mounted on a suitable aluminium plate,through supports and relevant little springs for easy and quick relamping.
The lamp plate is fixed to the lower cover through four vibration-damping blocks. Two tinned bare copper plaits are provided between the lamp plate and the lower cover to improve the
heat removal.
FILTERS: (when required) dichroic red for runway end lighting and dichroic green for threshold lighting, are mounted in the rear side of the prisms through suitable stainless steel supports.
LAMP BY-PASS DEVICES: on request, the fitting can be equipped with fuse cut-outs (option F) mounted on suitable insulating strips fixed to the lower cover.
NOTES: To retrofit into existing FAA-E-2491 applications,, use Multi # 3950-142 or 3950-132 Load Bearing Ring.
